Currently we plan to practice at UTSA, Tejeda Middle School and once in a while at San Antonio College. We continue to look for additional facilities and are also looking to find a place we can rent/lease. If you know of an air-conditioned warehouse with a 24' or higher clear ceiling and at least 20,000 square feet, please contact John Kimmel at 210 670 8318.
We need to get an assessment of the current and the potential ability of those who which to play. Try-outs also give us a chance to see how each player accepts feedback, deals with unusual situations, handles adversity, and adjusts to suggested changes. Although our try-outs are two hours, we will get a failry solid initial assessment.
We schedule all of our teams to practice 3 to 4 hours a week. Local teams do not travel out of the general San Antonio area. Generally, this level of team has less experienced players or players whose parents cannot afford the cost of the higher level teams. A regional team travels within Texas to play in tournaments in Houston, Austin, South Padre and Dallas. This is a competitive team whose members possess the basic skills and are working on improving those skills and increasing their overall understanding of the game.
An elite team travels with Texas and at least one trip out of state. This is a highly competitve team whose players are intermediate to advanced volleyball players. Again our focus is on skill improvement and the mental aspects of the game.
Thank you for your interest. Club volleyball is similiar to other select team sports: we put players on teams, hire coachs, schedule practice, enter teams into tournaments, evaluate the players all in effort to improve the players' enjoyment and skill level of the game.
